Adelaide

April 9th 2026

We were delighted to have launched the inaugural Irish Women’s Short Film Festival in Adelaide, South Australia on April 9th 2026. The event was proudly hosted and supported by The Adelaide Irish Club and went off with huge success.

On the night, we asked audiences to vote for their favourite film and we were thrilled to announce that The Forest Midwife won our 2026 Audience Choice Award. The film is a short cinematic documentary, following the journey of the writer and social entrepreneur Catherine Cleary who bought a barren farm in Corry, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, and started to create a natural reservoir. Huge Congratulations to directer Beta Bajgart, Catherine Cleary and the whole team.

A huge Thank You to all who attended on the night and a special Thanks to Andy Beecroft who was our guest speaker during the roundtable panel and post films discussion. Andy has an impressive background working in Film and is currently the Marketplace Manager for Honey Pot - Adelaide Fringe's internationally recognised arts marketplace. We were so grateful he came to share his knowledge and experience.

The Irish Women’s Short Film Festival would not have happened without the support of The Adelaide Irish Club and in particular the work of Denis Carey and Fidelma McCorry. We are so grateful to the Irish Club’s team of volunteers and members who generously offer their time, expertise and passion for promoting Irish Culture and community in South Australia.

Go Raibh Míle Maith Agaibh!

Melbourne

May 3rd 2026

We were thrilled that our Melbourne event was SOLD OUT. The event was proudly supported by The Celtic Club in Brunswick and the Wild Geese Bistro.

On the night, we asked audiences to vote for their favourite film and we were thrilled to announce that Mr Sun won our 2026 Melbourne Top Pick Award. The film directed by Oonagh Quinn follows the story of Marie who is unable to move on from an unhappy event in her past. When her daughter spends the weekend at her Dad's, Marie's ex, she discovers that her tedious elderly neighbour is hiding his own lonely existence. The film was funded by Waterford Arts Office’s Screenwriter/Producer Grant. Huge Congratulations to the whole team!

The Irish Women’s Short Film Festival would not have happened without the support of The Celtic Club in Melbourne. The Celtic Club, established in 1887, has been the focal point for the past 130 years of the Australian Irish community in Melbourne and throughout Victoria. The central aim of the Club is being Victoria's major venue for the celebration and experience of Australian Irish heritage and culture. It is the oldest Irish Club in Australia.
